Stereophile Reviews The darTZeel NHB-108 Model Two

Like the proverbial pot of gold, darTZeel's golden equipment beckons. That, at least, is how it felt in January 2010, when John Atkinson and I ended our coverage of T.H.E. Show Las Vegas in the room shared by darTZeel, Evolution Acoustics, and Playback Designs. Listening to darTZeel's discontinued NHB-458 monoblocks (footnote 1) and NHB-18NS reference preamplifier (now updated), I was transfixed by the fullness of the system's midrange and overall beauty of the sound. "It was as though the system was opening its heart and welcoming us in," I wrote. "That's how warm and nurturing the sound was."

Los Angeles Audio Show – 2017

June 2nd – June 4th, 2016:

The first annual Los Angeles Audio Show (LAAS) is here and we will be exhibiting in room 203 at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel with one of our favorite dealers, The Audio Association, Southern California’s source for the finest audio equipment available.

The Audio Association will be exhibiting Evolution Acoustics’ latest creation… the EXACT Series Maestoso loudspeakers driven by darTZeel’s legendary NHB-458 monoblock amplifiers and the newest generation of the NHB-18NS Preamplifier with built-in reference phonostage. Vinyl will be spinning on the most speed accurate and speed consistent turntable system available… the Wave Kinetics NVS Reference Direct Drive. It will be utilizing the newest offering from Durand Tonearms called the Kairos which will hold the Ortofon MC-Anna Reference cartridge. Record cleaning will be done by the KLAUDiO Ultrasonic Vinyl Cleaning System. If that is not enough, Analog Audio Inc., is bringing a 1/4″ 2 track reel to reel tape machine along with some of the best music (Master Tapes) you will ever hear. Vibration control and isolation will handled by the new Wave Kinetics’ A10-U8R Audio Footers and Audio Top Weights as well as the new W8- Record Weight. All signal and power cables will, of course, be Evolution Acoustics. For you digital fanatics, come hear the Talea Audio Athanor prototype DAC being served super high resolution music by the Sound Galleries 2015 music server.

This is one room you will not want to miss!

Deep Impressions: The Wave Kinetics NVS Turntable, a Photo Essay and Review

This isn't going to be anything like a standard review, which is something that I don't do anyway. No short-term romance…no quickie relationship…no three-months-and-done. No "Wow, what the hell was that?!" No "of all the turntables I've ever heard, this is another one."

No, this is going to be a reverie, a reflection about a long-range love and admiration, about the way that a superb audio design can make its way into your heart in such a way that it simply becomes a constant presence in your listening room…one that helps to keep you focused on the analogical possibilities of the LP in the audio arts.
